Port Angeles man wins jackpot and plans to give back to employees who sold ticket

PORT ANGELES — After winning a $150,000 Powerball jackpot, a Port Angeles man decided to share the winnings with the employees who sold him the ticket.

Troy Ott told Lottery officials he plans to give each seller a $150 gift card to the nicest restaurant in town and provide the owners with an overnight stay at the Lake Crescent Lodge on Lake Crescent, according to a news release from Washington’s Lottery.

“I just want to thank them for giving me the opportunity to win,” Ott said in the release.

“I’m so incredibly grateful and appreciative of this win.”

Ott was not available for comment to the Peninsula Daily News.

Ott said that when he saw his girlfriend running out of the Mt. Pleasant IGS & Texaco at 3010 E. U.S. Highway 101, screaming with her arms in the air, he thought the place was being robbed.

Instead, it turned out he had won the $150,000 jackpot from the Powerball drawing May 11.

“I gave my girlfriend some of my old tickets to scan while she ran into the convenience store and the next thing I know, she’s yelling and running toward the car,” Ott said.

A Lottery official did not identify Ott’s girlfriend.

Ott told Lottery officials he’s already used some of his winnings to purchase his girlfriend a new kitten and pay off some of his mortgage, but that he has even bigger plans on how he’s going to spend the rest.

“We went out to a celebratory dinner at our favorite restaurant, but we’re planning to take an extended trip to Leavenworth for her birthday,” Ott said.

“We’re going to stay at a loft cabin, enjoy some wine tastings and just relax for a week.”
