Port Angeles man sentenced to prison time for rape of 14-year-old

PORT ANGELES — A 24-year-old Port Angeles man has been sentenced to 14 months in prison after pleading guilty to one count of third-degree rape of a child.

Dalton R. Porter was sentenced Wednesday in Clallam County Superior Court.

A second count of third-degree rape of a child was dismissed as part of a plea agreement.

Port Angeles police allege that Porter, then 23, had a two-month sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl last summer.

Porter knew the victim was younger than 16 and told the girl he was 17, according to the affidavit for probable cause.

Porter, who had no prior criminal history, was sentenced to the top end of the standard range, county Chief Criminal Deputy Prosecutor Michele Devlin said in a Friday news release.

After serving his time, Porter will be subject to three years of community supervision and participate in a sex offender treatment program.

Clallam County Superior Court Judge Erik Rohrer, who sentenced Porter, also signed a sexual assault protection order prohibiting Porter from having contact with the victim.

Porter was being held Friday at the Washington Corrections Center near Shelton.
