PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles man has been booked into the Clallam County jail after he crashed a vehicle on North Barr Road that authorities said had been stolen in Jefferson County.
The 40-year-old man remained in custody on Wednesday for investigation of possession of a stolen vehicle, second-degree possession of stolen properly and driving with a suspended license.
At about 12:20 p.m. Tuesday, deputies were called to a wreck involving a pickup in a ditch on the 200 block of North Barr Road, the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.
While en route to the wreck, they were told the pickup had been stolen in Jefferson County.
When they arrived, witnesses told them that a man had fled from the truck on a bicycle and carrying a plastic tote.
As they searched the area, nearby residents told the deputies that the man had ditched his bicycle and ran into a ravine.
Deputies found the man in a creek bed with the plastic tote.
A large amount of stolen construction tools were recovered with the pickup, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The pickup and tools had been stolen during the same incident in Jefferson County and will be returned to the property owner, the Sheriff’s Office said.
