PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles man was in satisfactory condition Thursday afternoon at Olympic Medical Center with a knee injury after a one-vehicle wreck on state Highway 112 near Graul-Ramapo Road, two and a half miles east of Joyce.
State Patrol spokeswoman Katherine Weatherwax said Brandon Dachs, 45, of Port Angeles, admitted to being the driver but said that nothing else has been confirmed, pending investigation.
The incident was reported at 9:50 a.m. Wednesday.
Dachs’ 1979 GMC truck appeared to have come down Graul-Ramapo Road, went airborne, and became lodged in a tree.
The highway was shut down in both directions and Peninsula Towing of Port Angeles was called to remove the truck, which required using a concrete saw, Weatherwax said.
Dachs fled the scene and somehow got himself to OMC, Weatherwax said.
A chihuahua was found wandering in the area. It was unknown how it escaped the truck, she said.
The dog’s identification led troopers to Dachs’ daughter, although they still could not locate Dachs.
“The driver was found at OMC in the middle of the night,” Weatherwax said.
”I don’t know how he made it to OMC. He was really injured,” she said.
A spokesperson at the Port Angeles hospital reported his condition on Thursday.
