LACEY — Chris Fidler of Port Angeles has received the Distinguished Alumni Award for exemplary service to his community from Saint Martin’s University in Lacey.

Fidler recently retired from the Port Angeles Waterfront Center, where he was the interim executive director and project director for the Field Arts & Events Hall.

The Distinguished Alumni Award is one of the highest honors given by Saint Martin’s University.

“Saint Martin’s University is proud to award this year’s cohort of Distinguished Alumni,” said Roy Heynderickx, the university’s interim co-president. “Since 1995, the University has celebrated our exemplary graduates for their achievements, contributions to their industry or profession, service to their community and loyalty to our university. We are delighted to recognize Chris Fidler for his contributions to society, exemplified by his establishment of a cultural center fostering community engagement and creativity.”

Fidler joins a group of 136 Saint Martin’s alumni who have been recognized for professional achievement, Catholic Benedictine service, service to community or service to Saint Martin’s since 1995.

Fidler earned a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Saint Martin’s College in 1982 and a master of science from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service in Washington, D.C., as well as a certificate of languages from the Goethe Institute in Bremen, Germany.

Fidler was the director of grants and contracts for the Geneva Foundation, overseeing more than 160 military medical research studies conducted at more than 40 U.S. Department of Defense sites worldwide.

He was also a faculty member at the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business from 2000 to 2010.

Fidler served as a senior vice president with the Petrizzo Group, a Washignton, D.C.- based, bipartisan lobbying firm whose Pacific Northwest clients included Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle Children’s Hospital, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation and Vulcan, Inc.
