PORT ANGELES — A 44-year-old Port Angeles man has been charged with delivery of methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a school bus stop and other drug charges.
Darren J. Samples, 44, of Port Angeles was arrested Thursday and charged Friday after officers said they found methamphetamine and marijuana at his Port Angeles apartment.
“This case is of particular concern because of the very close proximity of two school bus stops to Mr. Samples’ apartment,” said Jason Viada, supervisor with Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team, or OPNET.
The Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has charged Samples with three counts of delivery of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and possession of more than 40 grams of marijuana.
Plea Friday
Samples will enter a plea to the charges at his arraignment at 1:30 p.m. Friday.
Clallam County Superior Court Judge Ken Williams released Samples without bond.
The judge imposed a curfew and other bail conditions.
OPNET detectives, along with members of the Port Angeles and Sequim police departments and Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, executed a search warrant at Samples’ apartment at 201 N. Liberty St. on Thursday.
They said they found a small amount of methamphetamine and about 70 grams of marijuana in the master bedroom, court papers show.
A judge had earlier found probable cause to authorize a search of Samples’ residence.
Court documents said an OPNET informant purchased methamphetamine from Samples on Aug. 16, Aug. 24 and Sept. 7.
The drugs were tested at a State Patrol crime lab and confirmed to be methamphetamine, court records said.
