PORT ANGELES — A 46-year-old Port Angeles man was in the Clallam County jail Saturday after he was arrested last week at a public library where authorities said he was viewing child pornography on a public computer.
Port Angeles police arrested Kevin Alden Clark on Thursday at the Port Angeles Main Library for investigation of two counts of first degree possession of depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct, Deputy Police Chief Brian Smith said.
Clallam County Superior Court judge Ken Williams set Clark’s bond at $2,500 at Clark’s first court appearance on Friday.
Deputy prosecuting attorney Ann Lundwall requested $35,000 as bail, but Williams declined the request because Clark had cooperated with police during and after his arrest.
Clark’s next court appearance is at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Clallam County Courthouse.
A Port Angeles police officer dressed in plain clothes was in the library Thursday when he saw Clark allegedly viewing sexually explicit videos of minors on a public computer terminal, according to court documents filed Friday.
Clark had three thumb drives with him at the time of his arrest that were later found to contain sexually explicit video of minors.
After obtaining a warrant, police searched Clark’s home that same day and found printed photos that Clark had described to them.
Police also seized Clark’s computer and several external digital storage devices, and Smith said investigators are checking them for further sexually explicit videos and images depicting minors.
According to court documents, library staff first received complaints of Clark viewing sexually explicit material at the library on Aug. 24. Port Angeles police first became aware of Clark’s actions four days later.
At Lundwall’s request, judge Williams barred Clark from communicating at all with children younger than 18 and banned him from the library.
