PORT ANGELES — Not many new projects in Port Angeles are being planned until current large construction projects are completed, according to the city’s 2008-2014 Capital Facilities Plan.
A public hearing on the plan, which combines transportation and capital projects, is set for Tuesday’s Port Angeles City Council meeting, and will be continued until the June 17 meeting before the council considers approval.
The state requires that the city update the plan annually by July 1 to continue receiving state funding for transportation and capital projects.
“There’s not a lot going on right now,” said City Public Works Director Glenn Cutler.
Most city projects are on hold until the Eighth Street bridges replacement and Port Angeles International Gateway Transportation Center projects are completed, he said.
The $18.4 million project to replace the bridges over Valley and Tumwater creeks is scheduled to completed this fall.
The $13.8 million Gateway Center project being built along Lincoln Street between Railroad Avenue and Front Street is scheduled to be completed by the end of the summer.
Cutler emphasized the plan is used to set priorities not the commit the city to specific projects, since funding for many of them still must be obtained or put into the city budget.
