PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Library will begin $55,000 in renovations today, causing some limitations on service and one day of closure.

During the work planned through June 14, carpet will be replaced in the central part of the library, public computer workstations will be updated and access will be improved for patrons using personal electronic devices, said Noah Glaude, manager of the library at 2210 S. Peabody St.

It will remain open through Monday, June 13, with some service limitations.

It will be closed Tuesday, June 14, while renovations are completed.

The library’s 32 public computers and public printer will be unavailable from Wednesday through June 14.

Wi-Fi access, express computers with a 15-minute limit, circulating iPads, and digital microfilm reader computers will remain available.

Also, during the project, the library’s audiobook, CD and DVD collections will be displaced.

Small amounts of the displaced collections will remain available on temporary shelving.

However patrons can continue placing holds on material from other branches during the renovation.

Other areas of the library will remain open and operate as usual during the renovation project.

Layout changes

In addition to replacing nearly 2,000 square feet of worn carpet, the renovations will adjust the layout of the library’s public computers and other furnishings.

In 2015, the public computers at the library were in use for more than 60,000 hours, while nearly 70,000 prints were made on the public printer.

In addition to the new carpeting and layout, technology and equipment also will be updated throughout the building — including new computer monitors, chairs, and tables with convenient access power outlets.

The renovation project was planned as part of the North Olympic Library System’s Ten Year Capital Plan and was funded as part of the system’s 2016 capital improvement budget.

The North Olympic Library System oversees public libraries in Port Angeles, Sequim, Forks and Clallam Bay.
