PORT ANGELES — Seattle performer Eli Rosenblatt and his five-piece band will bring a mix of salsa, swing, and samba music to the Port Angeles Library for the “Art Blast!” party, a free, all-ages event this Friday night.
The musicians will take the stage to help celebrate two things happening here at 2210 S. Peabody St.: the new Art in the Library show, with an opening reception at 6:30 p.m., and the newly renovated children’s area.
After 18 years of heavy use, the kids’ section recently underwent major remodeling, with new carpet, paint, furniture, technology and a different layout.
The section was closed through much of August for the $40,000 renovation.
Rosenblatt’s music — which mixes the sounds of Cuba, Eastern Europe, Africa and beyond — is ideal for reopening this vital space, youth services librarian Jennifer Knight noted.
A multi-instrumentalist and composer, Rosenblatt often gives concerts for children and their families, she said, adding that he’s known for creating a joyful, interactive experience.
The band will start at 7 p.m., right after the Art in the Library reception.
Three artists to attend
That event brings together art from Port Townsend children’s book illustrator Richard Jesse Watson, his son Jesse Joshua Watson and Poulsbo painter Derek Gundy.
Art lovers can meet the three men, enjoy light refreshments until Rosenblatt gets going.
