Port Angeles adventurer and author Chris Duff today finished a key leg of his goal to row from Scotland to Iceland, reaching the Faroe Islands.
Duff began his 205-mile journey May 23 at the Port of Ness on Scotland’s Lewis Island, traveling 40 to 50 miles per day in his orange sea kayak.
He made landfall on Suouruy Island, he reported by email today. Duff, 54, said he is resting in the village of Vagur.
The Faroe Islands are about halfway between Scotland and Iceland, where Duff hopes to be the first man in modern history to row the distance.
The Faroe Islands are a self-governing dependency of Denmark.
He is the second North Olympic Peninsula resident to accomplish a natural and dangerous feat in a week.
Last Friday, Leif Whittaker of Port Townsend scaled Mount Everest — the world’s tallest mountain — for the second time.
