Port Angeles: Juan de Fuca Festival of the Arts, co-sponsored by PDN, begins today

PENINSULA SPOTLIGHT

PORT ANGELES — The 11th annual Juan de Fuca Festival begins today, May 28, and continues through Monday, May 31.

Tickets for the festival which celebrates a diversity of cultures with music, dance and theatrical performances, are $30 for a four-day pass ($25 for Festival members) and are available at Port Book and News, 104 E. First St., and Pacific Mist Books, 121 W. Washington St., Sequim. They are also available at the Vern Burton Center, 308 E. Fourth St., during the festival.

Daily tickets are available at $10 person ($9 for Festival members, students and seniors) at the Vern Burton center.

A street fair takes place beginning today at noon at the Vern Burton Center.

Performances take place at several stages: Ruddell Auto Mall Main Stage is at the Vern Burton Center; Chamber Stage is located down the hall from the Main Stage; Pettit Oil Stage is also located in the Vern Burton Center; KONP Stage is at the First United Methodist and Congregational Church, 110 E. Seventh St.; Fine Arts Center Stage is located at 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd.; and the Peninsula College Arts Stage is at the College Little Theatre, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

Friday, May 28

Ruddell Main Stage

6 p.m.: Casey Neill, country, folk, traditional Irish, and bluegrass

7:30 p.m.: Opening Ceremonies

7:45 p.m.: Showcase: Misty River, four women playing a wide range of Americana music from traditional to modern folk, on guitar, fiddle, accordion, bass and banjo.

9:15 p.m.: Showcase: What the Chelm performs Klezmer music of Eastern Europe and Israel.

Chamber Stage

5:30 p.m.: Shockable Rhythms Celtic music on guitar, fiddles, djembe drum and vocals.

6:30 p.m.: Baby Gramps music rooted in the ’20s and ’30s, rags, jazz, blues and originals on his antique National guitar.

7:45 p.m.: Juliet Wyers

9 p.m.: Casey Neill

Pettit Oil Stage

5 p.m.: Mars: A New Opportunity, power-point session looking at the Mars robotic missions of Spirit and Opportunity.

6 p.m.: Open House Visit and NASA Displays

11 a.m.: Five Acre “Orff”‘estra with Juanita Ramsey, children 7-12 years old perform a variety of tunes from Bach to Blues on xylophones, marimbas, recorder and percussion.

1:30 p.m.: Stevens Middle School Jazz Band

2:45 p.m.: Scoil Rince Slieveloughone Dance Company, traditional Irish step dancing
