PORT ANGELES — Four children whirl green and orange hula hoops around their waists.
Two men sit on lawn chairs in the street and catch up on what’s happened since last year.
Seven belly dancers shake the metal jewelry hanging from their wrists, necks, shoulders and waists as they are cheered on by a crowd of about 130 people.
The ninth annual Juan de Fuca Festival of the Arts is in full swing — and it’s a success.
According to one little girl overheard by festival Director Anna Manildi, the festival is “better than Christmas,” Manildi said Sunday.
The four-day festival, which started at noon Friday, continues through tonight.
“It has to be some kind of record,” Manildi said of this year’s high attendance.
Ticket sales have not been tallied. But Manildi believes this festival has passed last year’s record of 12,000 tickets.
Ticket sales do not include the street fair, which has been busy all weekend this year, she said.
