Port Angeles increases many fees for non-city residents

PORT ANGELES — Using William Shore Memorial Pool will cost more in 2005, but only if you live outside the city limit.

Fees for numerous other city services, programs and facilities also will increase Jan. 1 — especially if you aren’t a city resident.

The City Council approved a new fee schedule at its Tuesday night meeting by a 6-1 vote.

It was the first comprehensive review of city fees since October 1996.

City Manager Mike Quinn said the ordinance aims to make more of the fees charged to non-city residents 50 percent higher than those charged to city residents.

A fair number of other cities charge non-residents 50 percent more, he said.

Although it includes numerous increases, the fee ordinance doesn’t address the city’s cost of providing those services, Quinn said.

That analysis takes more time, so it will be done next year, he said.

Services fees

Non-city residents will pay more in 2005 at William Shore Memorial Pool for shower, suit and towel rentals, pool rental and exercise classes but not instruction classes or private lessons.

They also will pay $10 more — $60 up from $50 — for youth/senior three-month passes and $25 more — $150 up from $125 — for youth/senior annual passes.

A family six-month pass will increase from $280 to $285 in 2005 for non-city residents.

The fee increases affect hourly and daily rental rates for both city and non-city residents at the Vern Burton Community Center and Port Angeles Senior Services and Community Center.

The cost of an adult vault at Ocean View Cemetery also increased, from $700 to $850.
