PORT ANGELES — U.S. Rep. Norm Dicks put the size of Westport Shipyard Inc.’s new megayacht facility into perspective Monday:
“This almost looks like a (Boeing) 747 plant up in Everett,” Dicks told the hundreds in the audience in the cavernous factory building.
“This is pretty big time,” the veteran congressman proclaimed, gazing around the shiny new 102,000-square-foot structure in which the world’s largest production yacht will be built.
Dicks, speaking to more than 500 at the ceremony, stood on a stage under a banners that read, “Thank You Port Angeles” and “Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce Welcomes Westport.”
Dicks was one of several who spoke before the ribbon-cutting ceremony late Monday morning, praising the government and private-sector teamwork that successfully brought the plant and up to 200 new jobs to Port Angeles.
