Horizon Air will reinforce cockpit doors on its entire fleet to comply with new federal regulations in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the airline said Monday.
The doors on Horizon’s Dash-8 turboprop planes it flies between Port Angeles and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport as well as the other planes that serve 37 other cities in the Northwest, western Canada and California will be fortified with deadbolt locks to hinder unauthorized access to the flight deck, the Seattle-based airline said.
Horizon’s installation on its 61 aircraft is due to be finished by the end of the week, the company said.
Alaska Airlines, Horizon’s sister company, also is reinforcing the cockpit doors on its 102-aircraft fleet.
