The Lonely H was far from lonely on Valentine’s Day.
A large contingent of Port Angeles fans jammed the Experience Music Project’s Sky Church on Saturday to cheer the homegrown, upbeat modern rock band on to the Sound Off! 2004 battle of the bands finals.
“The fans — there were so many PA people. They were screaming so loud. We couldn’t hear ourselves playing,” the band’s 17-year-old bass player, Johnny Whitman, said Monday.
The band of five Port Angeles High School boys will again perform nine original songs in a 40-minute set to compete Feb. 28 against two other bands in the Sound Off! finals.
The annual invitation-only Experience Music Project competition is open to musicians 21 and younger. It rewards new talent with studio recording time, equipment and further exposure in the eclectic Seattle music scene.
