PORT ANGELES – — – Brian Gawley, the 39-year-old reporter lost for three nights in Olympic National Park, was released from Olympic Medical Center on Saturday afternoon.
Gawley’s day hike last Sunday went seriously wrong after he lost his way while returning to his car.
Gawley, wearing only shorts, tennis shoes and a T-shirt, spent three nights in the wilderness near Appleton Pass trailhead in Olympic National Park.
He was found Wednesday afternoon and airlifted to the hospital in Port Angeles.
Besides having blistered feet, a bandage on his head and a black eye — and looking thinner — Gawley was in good spirits Saturday.
He plans on returning to work next week, perhaps for a short time on Monday.
“I really appreciate all the effort and the support,” said Gawley.
“I’m sorry I put everyone through this.”
