The Port Angeles High School chamber orchestra won the large-string ensemble division of the state music championships held Friday and Saturday in Ellensburg.
A small group from the high school also placed first in a percussion category, while a quartet and a soloist were top finishers in other events.
“It was a great competition,”‘ said Ron Jones, high school orchestra director.
“I think this is probably the best result in terms of number of awards and it’s just more evidence of the strength of the program in the Port Angeles School District.”
The 14-member chamber orchestra earned 292 points out of a possible 300 for its performance of three movements from Gustav Holst’s “St. Paul’s Suite.”
