Port Angeles High School Class of 1963 holds 50th reunion

PORT ANGELES — More than one-third of the 270-member Port Angeles High School Class of 1963 came to town for its 50-year reunion recently.

“Classmates had a great time sharing memories and reminiscing,” said Dave Glas, reunion committee member.

“Coming from all across the U.S., 103 classmates with 51 spouses attended the event” July 26-28 in Port Angeles.

Highlights of the reunion included a pep rally by the Roughrider band, entertainment by an imitation Elvis and a classmate-formed jam session.

U.S. Rep. Derek Kilmer, a 1992 graduate of Port Angeles High School, welcomed the class. Kilmer, a Democrat living in Gig Harbor, represents the 6th Congressional District, which includes the North Olympic Peninsula.

A special observance near the mouth of the Elwha River was conducted in memory of deceased classmates, teachers and school staff.

“Barb [Hansman] Ellis, reunion committee chair, deserves special recognition for making this such a successful, memorable experience,” Glas said.
