PORT ANGELES — A proposed multimillion-dollar graving dock project that could bring high-paying jobs to Port Angeles is the subject of a meeting Wednesday.
The public is invited to attend the meeting and comment on the proposal.
The meeting, before the Port of Port Angeles board of commissioners, begins at 9:30 a.m. in The Landing mall’s second-floor Harborside Room, which can seat about 100 persons.
A presentation from state Department of Transportation officials on the amount of land they would need for the big onshore dry dock project will probably start about 10 a.m., with the public comment period afterward.
Port Angeles is in competition for the project with a site in Tacoma.
Port Angeles is thought to have an edge because it has more land available.
Port leaders say they have been awaiting land specifications from state Transportation officials before they can move forward on negotiations for the property.
This is the second major maritime project that has come before the Port commissioners this fall.
In October, Westport Shipyard Inc. picked Port Angeles over Anacortes for a new yacht-building facility that will employ 200 workers. Construction will start next year on the facility, which will be used to build $30 million, 164-foot yachts.
