PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles police today are searching for a suspect who they say robbed the Fairmount Grocery Store at gunpoint late Sunday.
The suspect is described as a Latino or Native American male, about 30 years old, between 5-feet-9 and 6 feet tall and weighing between 180 and 200 pounds.
He was wearing dark clothes, and a mask covered the lower portion of his face when he entered the store at 1137 W. U.S. Highway 101 in west Port Angeles at 10:40 p.m.
Police said he was armed with a rifle and demanded all the cash in the cash register.
The clerk complied with the suspect, who then fled eastbound from the store. Police would not say how much cash was taken.
Police with a police dog searched the area. Lower Elwha police and Clallam County sheriff’s deputies assisted with the initial investigation.
Brian Smith, Port Angeles deputy chief of police, said detectives were following up on leads today and processing footprints, fingerprints and “all the forensic stuff,” Smith said.
Anyone with information about the subject is asked to phone Port Angeles police at 360-452-4545
Port Angeles Police Detective Kevin Spencer is in charge of the case.
