PORT ANGELES — Stumping before Clallam County contractors, Realtors and Rotarians on Wednesday, Republican gubernatorial candidate Dino Rossi vowed to bring state government back to the people.
“I actually plan on being governor for the whole state of Washington,” Rossi told members of the North Peninsula Building Association, many who showed their support by stuffing campaign contributions into a jar.
About 75 attended the afternoon Rossi reception and campaign fund-raiser, including county Republican leaders such as 24th District state Rep. Jim Buck of Joyce and his wife, county GOP Chairwoman Donna Buck, and County Commissioner Mike Chapman.
The building association co-sponsored the Rossi reception along with the National Federation of Independent Business, which has about 15,000 Washington members.
Two hours earlier, Rossi spoke before an audience of about 75 at a Port Angeles Rotary Club meeting in a non-fund-raising appearance.
In addition to the public appearances, Rossi met with editors of Peninsula Daily News and participated in a broadcast interview on radio KONP during Wednesday’s Port Angeles visit.
Rossi, a former state senator from eastern King County, will face Attorney General Christine Gregoire for governor in the Nov. 2 election.
