PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles firefighters on Friday put out a fire in a garage in the 2100 block of West 16th St., that began in the engine compartment of a vehicle.
Crews with the Port Angeles Fire Department covered a second vehicle still parked in the garage with a salvage tarp and were able to extinguish the fire before it spread to adjacent structures or cause damage to the second vehicle, reported Captain Kelly Ziegler in press release.
No one was hurt, Ziegler said.
Firefighters called to the blaze at 1:05 p.m. Friday found flames reaching into the rafter space of a 16-foot-by-24-foot garage.
The owner told firefighters that no one was inside the garage and that the fire started in the vehicle engine compartment.
Port Angeles Fire Department responded with 12 personnel, including three chief officers, one engine, one ladder truck, one medic unit and one air supply truck. Olympic Ambulance had one medic unit on medical standby.
Port Angeles Police Department provided two personnel for traffic control. Public Works provided traffic barriers and the lights department shut off power to the building.
The fire remained under investigation Friday afternoon.
