PORT ANGELES — Daniel F. Sullivan lost his left leg below the knee in a commercial fishing accident several years ago, but that didn’t stop him from one of his loves — hiking the outdoors.
“He loved to do mountain climbing, even after he got his prosthesis,” Mr. Sullivan’s fiancee, Linda Beach of Port Angeles, said Tuesday.
In nature, Mr. Sullivan held a special affection for Ediz Hook, even penning a poem about it titled “The Spit of Angels,” referencing the Spanish translation of “Angeles” in the city’s name.
In life, Mr. Sullivan practiced sensitivity and intelligence, though his demeanor changed after his mother’s death in October.
A recovering alcoholic, Mr. Sullivan had been drinking again, and friends worried that his drinking might make him careless enough to harm himself or others.
