PORT ANGELES — FBI agents in the Northwest are working around the clock to investigate any regional connection to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, a special agent from the Seattle office told emergency managers Thursday.
Special Agent Greg Jennings spoke to city, county, state and federal emergency management representatives meeting at a Washington State Emergency Management Association conference at the Red Lion Hotel.
Jennings discussed FBI counterterrorism efforts in Washington state — and his safety as part of the investigations.
“I was scared,” Jennings said, recalling a trip last weekend to the Pacific Science Center in Seattle with his 2-year-old twins.
“Going into this public area, with an anthrax scare and everything, I was scared.”
But his concern, he said, was no greater than it has been any other day since Sept. 11.
“We’ve had very little direct involvement in what’s been going on back East,” Jennings told about 50 in the audience. “What we’re doing (in Washington) is just shaking the trees to see what falls out.”
