PORT ANGELES — The Wednesday Port Angeles Farmers Market will open at The Gateway transit center June 17, and return on June 24, in a test that could result in a permanent move for both the summer market and the year-round Saturday market.
Market Manager Michele d’Hemecourt said the city of Port Angeles is allowing the market’s vendors to use The Gateway’s pavilion at the corner of Lincoln and Front streets free of charge for those two days.
The Saturday market still will be held in the parking lot of the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., during this trial run, she said.
The Wednesday market has been at the corner of Laurel and First streets.
If the vendors like the new location, both the Saturday and Wednesday markets would move to The Gateway, d’Hemecourt said.
The Gateway’s pavilion is expected to open by the end of next week. The center is now in use for Clallam Transit buses. Parking opened recently.
The $14.7 million downtown project, which also includes a police substation, is a joint venture between the city of Port Angeles and Clallam Transit. It is located on Lincoln and Front streets and Railroad Avenue.
