Daniel P. Horton headed into Hood Canal on a friend’s boat Sunday, planning to catch crabs for a family picnic with his wife and five children later that day in Port Angeles.
He wanted to take his children with him, but the day was cold — and his wife, Teresa, advised that they stay home, said Horton’s sister, Nancy Alexander of Darrington.
“He left a note for them that he would be home at 1 or 2 (o’clock),” Alexander said Wednesday.
But as Horton, 43, and his friend, David Faulkner, 37, pulled a crab pot into the boat in the waters north of Bangor, the boat flipped and the men were knocked into the water.
A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter rescued Faulkner Sunday afternoon, but Horton has not been found.
“Everybody loved Danny,” his sister said Wednesday.
“Everyone was his friend. There are people calling from all over, because everyone loved Dan.”
