PORT ANGELES — A revised skateboard ordinance reviewed Tuesday night by the City Council would prohibit skateboards, roller skates, inline skates and bicycles on downtown sidewalks.
A violation could mean a $50 fine that can’t be suspended or deferred, but could be converted to community service.
The area covered by the proposed ordinance runs from Valley Creek Estuary Park on the west to Francis Street Park on the east, and from the waterfront to Second Street between Valley and Laurel streets.
It extends south to Fourth Street between Laurel and Peabody streets.
But still to be determined is how to allow skateboarders and skaters to travel legally along the Waterfront Trail from City Pier to Valley Street, where it follows the city sidewalk.
The second reading and potential adoption of the proposed ordinance was set for the next City Council meeting at 6 p.m. May 16 in the council chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.
