PORT ANGELES –Residents are facing a 5.7 percent increase in electricity rates if the City Council approves the recommendation from its Utility Advisory Committee, which met on Tuesday.
The higher rate will go into effect in October if approved by the council.
The proposed rate increase will keep the basic charge for residential customers at $11 per month.
But the price customers pay for electricity will increase from 4.75 cents per kilowatt-hour to 5.06 cents under the proposal.
An average residential customer using 1,500 kilowatt-hours a month would see his monthly bill increase from $82.25 to $86.90.
The City Council’s Aug. 5 public hearing on the proposed rate increase was continued until Tuesday so the advisory committee could review three proposed options and make a recommendation.
A final decision on the proposed rate hike won’t take place before the council’s Sept. 2 meeting.
If passed, the increase would take effect Oct. 1.
