PORT ANGELES — Supporters of extending sewer service to the unincorporated commercial area east of Port Angeles will begin gathering petition signatures to judge the project’s level of interest.
That’s the message Jim Haguewood, executive director of the Clallam County Economic Development Council, gave Monday afternoon to Clallam County Public Utility District No. 1 commissioners.
Haguewood said he and Russ Veenema, executive director of the Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce, want to lead the petition drive.
The petition would begin the process of forming a local utility district to build a sewer line extension from Port Angeles to the eastern urban growth area, which extends along U.S. Highway 101 roughly from DelGuzzi Drive to Morse Creek.
A feasibility study would follow a successful petition drive, Haguewood said.
Then the local utility district must be approved by a majority vote of property owners subject to the assessment.
