PORT ANGELES — The Salvation Army Thrift Store will close its doors beginning Sept. 28 until it is able to relocate from the downtown space it has occupied for two years.
Officials of the thrift store, located at 123 E. First St., hope to move and open within six months.
Until then, the Salvation Army will accept no more donations of items for the thrift store at the downtown location next to the Elks Naval Lodge building.
“We have continued to lose money during the last few years and are looking for a better location,” said Port Angeles Salvation Army Capt. Ralph Jiminez.
“We are looking for a location that offers more parking and easier access.”
He said thrift store profits normally help the Salvation Army supplement social services programs.
The store moved from Eighth Street to the First Street location, the former Kaufman-Miller furniture store, in 2000.
