PORT ANGELES — The Olympic Coast Discovery Center is now open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Discovery Center is located on the top floor of The Landing mall, 115 E. Railroad Ave., on the downtown Port Angeles waterfront.
The center was developed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to introduce North Olympic Peninsula visitors and residents to Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary.
The sanctuary covers 3,310 square miles of marine waters off the Peninsula’s coastline. It is home to one of the most diverse marine mammal populations in North America.
The $430,000 Discovery Center opened in July 2004 and is advertised as “a great place for a warm-up or postmortem to a tide-pooling trip to see the rich marine life at Tongue Point in the Salt Creek Recreation Area west of Port Angeles, or to launch a learning adventure in Neah Bay, La Push, Kalaloch and other coastal destinations.”
