PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College is among 11 establishments that have violated the revised Clean Indoor Air Act, according to complaints to the Clallam County Department of Health and Human Services.
The others include two fraternal lodges, the VFW post in Sequim, and seven taverns and restaurants.
The businesses will not be cited or fined — yet — but they’ve received a letter from Dr. Tom Locke, health officer for Clallam and Jefferson counties.
Locke reminds them that there can be no smoking in a public place or place of employment, that no-smoking signs must be posted at each entrance, and that people cannot smoke closer than 25 feet to windows that open, entrances, exits and ventilation intakes.
The letters were sent with a copy of RCW 70.160, a Compliance Response Form, a set of frequently asked questions, and two “No smoking” signs.
The businesses must complete the compliance form and return it to Rachel Anderson, Clallam County Tobacco Prevention and Control specialist.
