PORT ANGELES — City Councilman Max Mania is in Bhutan with his wife, Clallam County substance abuse prevention specialist Dale Holiday, according to an email sent last week to City Manager Dan McKeen.
Mania sent the email March 28 telling McKeen, who was not in the office last week, that he would not be at Tuesday’s City Council meeting, said City Clerk Janessa Hurd on Wednesday.
A number of council members did not know Tuesday night why Mania was not at the meeting.
Holiday first visited Bhutan, on the eastern end of the Himalayas, in 2010 at the invitation of the Bhutanese government’s Department of Urban Development and Engineering Services.
Holiday, who has a doctorate in environmental planning from the University of Washington’s School of Urban Design and Planning, worked as a volunteer, meeting with government officials and offering her expertise as a land planner.
In addition, the house she and Mania own in Port Angeles is up for sale.
The two-bedroom home is listed at $104,598, according to a Windermere Real Estate listing.
The house is valued at $122,678, according to the Clallam County Assessor’s Office.
The listing agent for the property has declined to comment on why the house is for sale.
Calls to Mania requesting comment on the couple’s plans were not returned last week or this week.
