PORT ANGELES — For sale: One slightly used 1956 Chevrolet sedan, a.k.a. “The Recycle Mobile.” Needs some work. Sale price negotiable. Contact city of Port Angeles.
Classic car enthusiasts might see that kind of advertisement soon if the City Council decides to sell the 48-year-old station wagon.
The car was bought in 1995 to promote the city’s recycling program. It has the words “The Recycle Man” painted on the side windows.
If it is sold, the city might replace the eight-cylinder, gasoline-powered classic with a gas-electric hybrid more in keeping with the recycling theme.
The Utility Advisory Committee reviewed the issue at its Tuesday meeting before deciding, at the urging of classic car enthusiast Mayor Richard Headrick, to let the City Council decide the car’s future.
The next City Council meeting is set for Tuesday at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.
“It’s a classic. I think the City Council should make this decision,” Headrick said.
“There’s going to be lots of local interest from car enthusiasts.”
