PORT ANGELES — Allyson Brekke, community and economic development director for the City of Port Angeles, has resigned from her role with the city effective Jan. 14.

Brekke and her family will return to Montana. Brekke had worked for 13 years with the City of Bozeman prior to coming to Port Angeles in 2016 to serve as the Port Angeles planning manager.

She was promoted to her present position in 2018 when Nathan West left the role to serve as city manager.

West said the city has begun the process of finding a new director.

“Filling of this critical position is a high priority for the City of Port Angeles, and it is anticipated that additional details will be released in the next couple of weeks regarding the city’s approach to filling this vacancy,” West said in a press release.

A graduate of the Northwest Women’s Leadership Academy, Brekke has led the development of a housing action plan and a climate action plan, and has performed audits to help the city improve and update its municipal codes with regard to development, according to the release.

“Her efforts on these projects will provide a framework that will sustain the city into the future and help to ensure the development of the Port Angeles community thrives,” West said.

Brekke said she is proud of the work the Community Development team has led, especially the obtaining of federal and state grant monies “for transformational community projects and the completion of the city’s first Housing Action Plan, all while ensuring the city’s development review process functions during an influx of building and an unexpected pandemic.”

“The relationships I have built here with the leadership team, other city employees, and the countless individuals in the community will never be forgotten,” she said in the release.

“Port Angeles will hold a dear place in my and my family’s hearts and I look forward to following the community’s continued growth.”
