After dominating the Port Angeles skyline for two days, a huge Swedish freighter that spilled 12,000 gallons of oil off the Oregon coast sailed away after completing repairs.
MV Tristan left for the Port of Tacoma at 2:40 a.m. Saturday, according to the Coast Guard Puget Sound Marine Safety Office.
In Tacoma, Caterpillar tractors were loaded into the ship’s 155,100 square feet of cargo deck, said Mike Hanson, spokesman for Wallenius Wilhelmsen, the company that owns the vessel.
By 2 p.m. Saturday, the Tristan was under way to Japan.
