PORT ANGELES — The city will strive for voluntary compliance when its new code compliance officer begins enforcing the recently adopted public nuisance ordinance, said City Manager Mark Madsen.
The new ordinance and code compliance officer position was unanimously approved by the City Council last week. The new person will begin early next year.
The new person’s first six months will concentrate on learning city laws in general and the new ordinance in particular, Madsen said.
“And you’re nobody’s friend, either,” said City Councilman Jack Pittis.
Councilman Grant Munro asked if the new person would be looking for the piles of junk he’s seen while traveling around town.
Madsen said looking for violations that need cleaning up would be one of the code compliance officer’s duties.
