PORT ANGELES — A contingent of city leaders met Wednesday with the new owner of the historical 1935 Kalakala ferry, but fell short of committing to a letter of support to help restore the vessel.
Port Angeles City Councilman Larry Williams, who met with Steve Rodrigues, said the issues would now have to be discussed with the rest of the city’s seven-member council.
Fellow council members Orville Campbell and Richard Headrick, city Economic Development Director Tim Smith, Kalakala supporter Bill Zynda and Port Angeles resident Cherie Kidd also attended the meeting at Williams’ office.
Williams said the issues discussed would have to be brought to the entire city council, possibly next week, before any commitments could be made to Rodrigues.
“What kinds of perimeters we could go into include a possible letter of intent that will assist Mr. Rodrigues in whatever will serve the time-critical things he needs to meet,” Williams said after the private meeting.
