Port Angeles city councilman hurt in crash

BREMERTON — Port Angeles City Councilman Jack Pittis, 59, remained hospitalized Wednesday after being injured in a two-vehicle collision on state Highway 3 in Kitsap County the night before.

Pittis was returning to Port Angeles from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport when a Port Hadlock man, Jordan Dale Brown Jr., 22, spun out in front of him near the state Highway 305 on ramp, according to statements from the State Patrol and the city of Port Angeles.

Brown was transported to Harrison Hospital in Bremerton with broken ribs and possible internal injuries. The 1987 Toyota 4Runner he was driving was destroyed in the crash.

Brown was cited for second-degree negligent driving, the statement said.

Pittis’ injuries were to the head, back and neck, the State Patrol said.

Pittis’ official condition is unknown because he instructed hospital staff not to release it publicly, said Harrison Hospital spokeswoman Patty Hart.

But Bonnie Pittis, his daughter, said Wednesday that her father was recovering.

“He’s doing OK,” she told the Peninsula Daily News during a brief telephone interview.

Teresa Pierce, a spokeswoman for the city, spoke to one of Pittis’ daughters, who said he was in stable condition.
