PORT ANGELES — The City Council will back Clallam County commissioners if they decide to put a 0.1 percent sales tax increase on the ballot this fall to help cover criminal justice costs.
The Clallam County Law and Justice Advisory Council will discuss the sales tax increase proposal at its 3 p.m. Tuesday meeting in the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St.
County Administrator Dan Engelbertson emphasizes the county’s Law and Justice Advisory Council hasn’t made any recommendation to county commissioners yet regarding the proposal to come up with revenue to replace cuts in state funding.
“Before I go to the board of commissioners with a recommendation, I would want to see some solid plan for what we are looking at if it doesn’t pass,” Engelbertson said.
The proposed tax increase would raise an estimated $725,000 annually including $460,000 for Clallam County, $185,000 for Port Angeles, $44,000 for Sequim and $32,000 for Forks.
