PORT ANGELES — The city may impose a new tax — $6 to $8 a month for most residential homeowners to $276 a month for the Safeway store on Lincoln Street — to correct longstanding stormwater problems.
The first of two public meeting to discuss this possible “stormwater utility tax”‘ will be held Thursday in the City Council chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.
There are two sessions, the first at 3 p.m. for residential property owners and at 7 p.m. for business owners.
City Director of Public Works and Utilities Glenn Cutler said the city will take audiences through a 30-minute slide presentation on “Why a Stormwater Utility?” and answer questions.
A second round of public hearings will be at 3 p.m. next Tuesday, April 30, for business property owners and at 7 p.m. for residential owners.
