Port Angeles church to host holiday concert, sing-along Tuesday

PORT ANGELES — “Wake O earth, wake everything!

Wake and hear the joy I bring;

Angels, powers, and all that be,

Wake, and joy this Sun to see.”

Such is the theme and feeling of “Carols Galore V,” the fifth annual concert and sing-along open to all at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 E. Lopez Ave., on Tuesday night.

Titled “Sing Noel! A Carol Service,” the evening will feature the NorthWest Women’s Chorale, Joy Lingerfelt on the Bond organ, the Mistletones clarinet quintet, handbell player Anita Bonham, violinist Olivia Bailey and the 22-voice Holy Trinity Chancel Choir.

Admission is $10 — or $25 per family — and proceeds will benefit Holy Trinity’s music program and the Port Angeles Food Bank.

Advent and Christmas carols and Old English readings fill out the program, promised Lingerfelt, director of the NorthWest Women’s Chorale.

“Ding Dong Merrily on High” on Bonham’s bells, “O Holy Night,” from the clarinet ensemble and poetry from the 1500s are here, alongside songs from the 22-voice Chancel Choir.

This is a night, Lingerfelt says, to put you in the mood for the season.

“Instead of being barraged with all of the Muzak from the secular world, come and participate in singing some of the traditional carols,” interwoven with readings of verse.

The NorthWest Women’s Chorale, added Lingerfelt, will offer a sampling from its three concerts to come.

In addition to Tuesday’s “Carols Galore V,” she and the chorale will give three performances around Clallam County:

■   At 7 p.m. Friday at the Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church, 925 N. Sequim Ave. in Sequim.

■   At 2 p.m. Saturday at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 250 N. Blackberry Ave. in Forks.

■   At 7 p.m. next Monday, Dec. 7, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Angeles.

For more information about “Carols Galore V” and about the NorthWest Women’s Chorale, phone Holy Trinity at 360-452-2323.
