PORT ANGELES — A car-motorcycle crash Friday morning resulted in the motorcyclist being airlifted to a Seattle hospital.
Gordon Bowlby, 54, of Port Angeles was listed in serious condition Saturday afternoon at Harborview Medical Center.
Bowlby, bass player for the Castaways Restaurant and Nightclub house band, was originally transported to Olympic Medical Center and did not appear to have life-threatening injuries at first, said Port Angeles Police Sgt. Glenn Roggenbuck.
“He was talking to us the whole time,” Roggenbuck said.
Once Bowlby arrived at the hospital, doctors discovered that he had suffered serious internal injuries, said his wife, Brandy.
“It’s very serious,” she said.
Doctors determined Gordon suffered a torn aorta, a fractured right leg and a bruised liver, Brandy said.
Doctors operated on Gordon Friday night and reattached the torn section of his heart with a less invasive procedure than opening up his chest, Brandy Bowlby said.
“So far everything is going good with that,” Brandy said.
