PORT ANGELES — Business has picked up at William R. Fairchild International Airport since the terminal parking lot reopened in mid-November, Airport Manager Jeff Robb said Wednesday.
“The last half of September was miserable for everybody,” Robb said. “One tenant was impacted dramatically by Sept. 11, and that was the Airport Coffee Co.
“In September and the first part of October, their business was off 70 percent,” he said. “They rebounded dramatically after the parking lot was reopened Nov. 16.”
Robb was referring to the effect the terrorist attacks on the Pentagon and World Trade Center had on the local airport.
Following the attacks, airports nationwide were closed until parking was moved at least 300 feet away from terminals to prevent possible car bomb attacks.
