PORT ANGELES — Local eating and retail establishments named in a Coast Guard report on racism incidents have responded “with attention and deep concern,”‘ says Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Russ Veenema.
Veenema told the chamber’s Monday’s luncheon meeting that he had begun visiting the “handful of businesses involved in these isolated incidents.”
He said that the business’ managers seen so far were “very responsive” and would make it clear to their employees — through meetings and sensitivity training — that racism and bias would not be tolerated.
Veenema didn’t name the businesses, but said all of the managers he had seen so far “were surprised that their businesses had been named.”
