PORT ANGELES — William Hutt saw the inside of a hospital 13 times before he was nine months old.
He was born with two holes in his heart and wasn’t breathing that day in May 1993.
Nine months later, doctors successfully transplanted a 5-year-old’s heart into baby William’s chest.
Now, the energetic 10-year-old who loves jokes and M&Ms is celebrating the 10th anniversary of his new heart.
On Thursday, William will be boss for a day as his mother, Dori, hosts a wealth of family, friends and some doctors to mark the special day.
“We are celebrating 10 years post-heart transplant for a child they said would never make it past a year old,” Dori Hutt said this week.
William, a fourth-grader at Franklin Elementary School, has spent much of his life in and out of hospitals for a variety of health issues.
