PORT ANGELES – Parsons RCI Inc. has been awarded the bid to build the new Eighth Street bridges for $18.4 million.
The City Council awarded the bid to the company Wednesday night.
Parsons RCI is headquartered in the Pierce County town of Sumner.
It has more than 600 employees in offices there, Oregon and Hawaii and manages more than $300 million in contracts.
It is part of massive Parsons Corp. of Pasadena, Calif., one of the nation’s largest engineering and construction firms.
The bid includes removal of the two existing timber trestles over Tumwater and Valley creeks and construction of two new five-span, pre-stressed concrete girder bridges.
The bid award did not include a decorative light fixture and pedestrian barrier or a decorative pedestrian railing that were optional.
“It’s been a very long journey,” said City Public Works Director Glenn Cutler prior to the council’s unanimous vote.
“In staff’s opinion, we have a good bid.”
The total estimated project cost is $21.4 million.
