PORT ORCHARD — Michelle Reid, assistant superintendent of the Port Angeles School District, is one of three finalists for South Kitsap School District superintendent.
The board announced Thursday its selection of three finalists for the superintendent position vacated by Dave LaRose, the Kitsap Sun reported.
They other two are John Steach, superintendent of Canby School District in Oregon, and Jay Hummel, superintendent of the Kuna Joint School District in Idaho.
Reid interviewed for the interim superintendent position in July. The board chose former Superintendent Bev Cheney to fill in for the 2012-2013 school year.
Begins in summer
The new superintendent of the 10,653-student district will begin work this summer for the 2013-2014 school year.
Each candidate will spend a day next week in the district to tour schools and meet with staff, parents and community members.
Reid, 53, will visit next Thursday, while Hummel will be there Monday and Steach on Wednesday.
Last March, Reid was a finalist for the Olympia School District superintendent position.
Dominic “Dick” Cvitanich, superintendent of the Lake Pend Oreille School District in Ponderay, Idaho, was selected for the job.
Reid has been assistant superintendent in the 3,968-student Port Angeles School District since 2004.
Before that, she worked as a high school principal and assistant high school principal in the district, and as a teacher and athletic director in the Granite Falls School District.
She and her husband, Terry, have four children.
